Orange, versatile, healthy and sometimes monstrous, the pumpkin in Tuscany

Rich in potassium, a good source of beta-carotene and also a good source of fiber, these are the most important benefits of this bright orange autumn vegetable. With over 100 different varieties, the pumpkin is quite a species-rich family and it is impossible to imagine the autumn table for young and old without it. And that does not just apply to us in German-speaking countries.
The pumpkin has left its mark on traditional dishes in Tuscany too and is a popular ingredient widely spread in Tuscany.
The classic dishes that are varied a little during the pumpkin season include the Ribollita, the classic Tuscan vegetable soup, pasta e zucca con pancetta e pecorino that is pasta with pumpkin, bacon and sheep’s milk cheese. But also, Pici con zucca, salsiccia e pecorino that is the traditional Tuscan Pici Pasta with pumpkin, fresh sausage and sheep's cheese, enchants.
More special: the flan di zucca, Fagottini alla zucca, risotto alla zucca e salsiccia ...
If you would like to be inspired by new things about the pumpkin, you should not miss the Pumpkin Festival in Foiano della Chiana (AR).
At the end of September, the well-known and funny harvest festival is celebrated. In the historic city center, growers show their colorfully decorated and creatively designed pumpkins on their exhibition stands.
Every year the piazza is immersed in a sea of thousands of decorated pumpkins. Countless pumpkins are also scattered in the streets of the historic center. Visitors can view works by different artists. There is also musical entertainment. The highlight of the event is the weighing of the pumpkins. And so, you can see one or the other orange monster. The winner is loudly chosen, and the visitors are enchanted with culinary delicacies.

If you would like to enjoy culinary delicacies around the pumpkin from Tuscany at home, you can browse the Passione Toscana webshop. My personal favorite: Pumpkin jam with ginger (also very tasty as a chutney with fried meat)
